Bhubaneswar: Speaker of the Odisha Assembly Surjya Narayan Patro on Tuesday directed the Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra to make a statement in the House on the alleged murder of a minor girl in Nayagarh district on Wednesday.
The Speaker’s ruling came in response to the demands by the opposition Congress and BJP members. He said the Minister will give a statement on four issues raised by the opposition members.
Following are the four issues:
—How did the parents of the murdered child enter the security zone of the State Assembly?
—How did the couple attempt to commit suicide by pouring diesel on themselves inside the security zone?
—Why the Nayagarh Police have not investigated the case while the complaint has been lodged for the last three months?
—The complaint has mentioned the complicity of a minister of Nayagarh district in the murder case.
Raising the issue during zero hour, Congress members Narasingha Mishra, Santosh Singh Saluja and Tara Prasad Bahinipati said the parents of the child have brought allegations against a Cabinet minister.
Stating that the couple had come to Bhubaneswar to protest due to the apathy of the Nayagarh Police, they wanted to know as to under whose pressure, the police are not taking any action. They urged the Speaker to suspend the remaining businesses in the House and direct the Minister of State for Home to make a statement on the matter.
Participating in the debate, Leader of the Opposition Pradipta Naik of BJP said the family members have claimed that a close associate of the Cabinet minister has killed their minor daughter. As the role of the minister in this heinous crime cannot be ruled out, let the minister give a statement on the matter in the House, he demanded.
