Kendrapada: A minor girl reportedly consumed poison in an attempt to kill herself during the hearing of her ‘rape’ case in a court in Odisha’s Kendrapada district on Friday.
According to sources, the girl was alleged raped on June 6 last year. The police had arrested the accused and filed the chargesheet in the court.
Speaking to the media on the day’s incident, Dilip Sahoo, IIC of Kendrapada Town police station, said the 16-year-old girl was present for hearing of the case in Additional District Judge-cum Special Judge Court (POCSO).
While the court was hearing the case, she went to the washroom on the premises and consumed poison. She was rushed to the district headquarters hospital in Kendrapada and later, shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Her condition was stated to be serious.
While the court suspended the hearing, the police had started investigation into the suicide attempt by the girl, the IIC said.
