Bhadrak: A minor girl was allegedly murdered by her father and step-mother at Bhaunriabanki village under Tihidi police limits in Bhadrak district late on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Parbati Barik, 17.
According to sources, Babaji Barik and his second wife Basanti Barik strangled the girl to death over a suspected family feud last night.
Hearing her scream, the girl’s uncle Prabhakar rushed to the spot, rescued her and took her a local hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.
Later, Prabhakar lodged a complaint at Tihidi police station against the husband-wife duo following which they were detained by the cops.
Prabhakar and some locals told the police that Babaji used to quarrel with his daughter over petty issues and torture her after he got married to Basanti.
The villagers have demanded an inquiry into the matter and strict action against the accused husband and wife.
