Rourkela: In a fresh incident of sexual assault in Rourkela, a minor girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in the steel city in Sundargarh district of Odisha.
As per sources, the shocking incident took place at a place under the jurisdiction of Raghnathpali police station. A complaint has been lodged with the police over the incident.
While the accused has been detained and he is being interrogated by police officials, a team also visited the spot as part of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the survivor has been admitted to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) for treatment.
The incident has triggered outrage in the area with local residents and leaders demanding quick justice. They urged the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation.
Earlier a month back, a minor girl was allegedly abducted and gang raped by three youths in the city. The miscreants forcibly took the girl while she was roaming near Bisra Chowk in Rourkela. They kept her in a room for three days and allegedly gang-raped her.
The girl somehow managed to run away from the spot and informed about the incident to her family members. Subsequently, the family members registered a complaint at Uditnagar police station.
The repeated incidents of sexual assault and other crimes have raised questions over the efficiency of the police in Rourkela.
