Minor Siblings Killed In Jumbo Attack, Parents Critical In Odisha

Jharsuguda: Two minor brothers were trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants while their parents sustained critical injuries in the jumbo attack in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district on Friday.

According to sources, the incident took place near Bhaunra village under Kirmira block under Jharsuguda forest range of the district in the morning.

The deceased were identified as Dhananjay Satnami (9) and Abhay Satnami (11), while their injured parents were identified as Umesh Ram Satnami and his wife, Leherabai Satnami.

The victims, who were a Chhattisgarh village, had recently come to Bhaunra village in Jharsuguda to work in a brick kiln, sources said.

The injured couple has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital at Jharsuguda for treatment.

Forest officials rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies which were sent to a hospital for post-mortem. Local police initiated a probe into the incident.

Over half-a-dozen elephants have been camping in Bagdihi forest in the area, leaving the residents of nearby villages in a state of fear.
