Dhenkanal: Some unidentified miscreants hurled bombs at the residence of a former panchayat samiti member in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district late Saturday night.
According to sources, the miscreants had come to the house of Aswini Kumar Parida, former panchayat samiti member of Kotagada under Tumusinga police limits late night. They threatened to eliminate him and hurled bombs at his house. They also set fire to his jeep parked in the premises of his house.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Parida said, “Three miscreants brandishing gun and sword came on a bike at around midnight and tried to open the main gate of my house. When I came out of the house and encountered them, they abused me in foul language and threatened to shoot me. I did not respond to their abusive language and returned home.”
Before leaving, they exploded 2-3 bombs aiming at Parida’s house. They also set poured kerosene on his jeep which was parked in a shade and set fire to it, he said. “I have filed a complaint at Tumusinga police station and hope that the police would trace the miscreants and arrest them,” he added.
On the cause of attack, he said, “I think they may be my political rivals. Since I had taken steps for various development works in my panchayat during my last tenure, my rivals might have turned jealous and tried to eliminate me.”
The police went to the spot and recovered two unexploded bombs from there. They have registered a case and started investigation.
