Miscreants Loot Rs 5 Lakh From SBI ATM In Berhampur
Berhampur: Unidentified miscreants looted Rs 5 lakh from an ATM of State Bank of India (SBI) located at Haladiapadar in Berhampur of Ganjam district on Monday night.
Some locals spotted the damaged kiosk and alerted police.
According to bank officials, Rs 5 lakh in cash was stolen from the ATM.
However, the looters failed to steal cash from another ATM of SBI near Gopalpur junction in the district. They reportedly fled the spot after seeing a police patrol vehicle.
In another incident, a group of miscreants attempted to break open an ATM at Ankuli in the district by using gas cutters but failed.
In a similar case, on June 17, a youth identified as Subrat Ray was arrested while allegedly attempting to steal money from an ATM kiosk installed at Jaleswar railway station in Balasore district.
According to sources, Ray was attempting to break open the machine after damaging the CCTV camera installed inside the kiosk when the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel caught hold of him.
On June 12, a group of unidentified miscreants had ransacked an ATM of State Bank of India (SBI) at Ranipatna Chhak in Balasore town but failed to steal cash from it.
The miscreants had damaged the front portion of the machine but fled the scene when a patrolling team of police reached the spot.
Earlier this month, two other ATMs of SBI located at Sunhata and ITI Chhak in the town were looted by miscreants in a similar way. An amount of Rs 36 lakh was looted from both the machines.
