Miscreants Ransack Hotel, Fire In Air In Odisha’s Balangir; One Detained By Police

Balangir: Police have detained one of the miscreants who ransacked a hotel and fired in air in Odisha’s Balangir district on Tuesday.

As per reports, three miscreants came to the hotel, run by Sanjiv Nanda and Vivekananda Pati, at Gaintala on Balangir-Sonepur road in the afternoon. A few staff of the hotel were present at the time as most of them had gone on leave due to Ganesh Puja. One of the miscreants was Raju Chhatria, the driver of Sanjiv.

The miscreants, who carried a gun with them, ransacked the hotel and beat up its three employees as the latter resisted them. Raju and his accomplices damaged the refrigerator, television, laptop, a bike and furniture. They also took away around Rs 10,000 from the cash box.

Before leaving, one of the miscreants fired 9 rounds in the air in front of the hotel. Terrified by the attack of the miscreants, Sanjiv managed to escape through a side gate and informed his partner Vivekananda.

Following a complaint filed by Vivekananda, local police rushed to the spot. After questioning the hotel staff about the incident, they nabbed Raju. The two other miscreants are absconding, the sources said.

The police have registered a case and started investigation. However, the cause of attack on the hotel has not been ascertained.
