Bhubaneswar: Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into some parts of Odisha during the next 2-3 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
“Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maharashtra, remaining parts of Karnataka, some more parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, some parts of Chhattisgarh & Odisha, most parts of westcentral & some more parts of North Bay of Bengal and remaining parts Northeastern states and some parts of West Bengal and Sikkim during next 2-3 days,” the MeT office said in its midday bulletin.
The low pressure, which has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast, is also likely to move slowly northwards and become more marked during the next 48 hours.
According to weather models like NCEP GFS, IMD GFS and ECMWF, the LoPAR is likely to move slowly northwards towards the West Bengal coast and become more marked over the same region during the next 48 hours. A few models also suggest that the system may intensify into a depression around May 29.
Under its influence, the state is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall till May 31. Squally weather may prevail with gusty surface wind speed 30-40 gusting to 50 kmph, over central bay and adjoining north Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha coast from May 27-31. Sea conditions are likely to be moderate to rough. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the deep sea and along and off Odisha coast during this period.
