Bhubaneswar: Conditions are favourable for further withdrawal of southwest monsoon from remaining parts of Odisha during the next 2-3 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.
Southwest monsoon has withdrawn from some parts of Karnataka, some parts of Telangana, most parts of Maharashtra, entire Goa, remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, most parts of Chhattisgarh, remaining parts of Bihar, entire Jharkhand, West Bengal & Sikkim and some parts of Odisha and northeastern states, according to the midday bulletin.
“The monsoon withdrawal process began today from the northern parts of the state, and the weather is favourable for the complete withdrawal of the monsoon from the remaining parts of the state within the next 2 to 3 days,” senior meteorologist Umasankar Das posted on X.
Monsoon lasted longer than usual in Odisha amid vigorous rainfall activity in the beginning of October under the influence of a depression. This year saw formation of 16 back-to-back weather systems over Bay of Bengal since June against the usual 12 to 14 low-pressure areas.
The weather agency has also warned of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in the districts of Malkangiri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput and Puri on October 12.
Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Khurda, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts.
While there is no further heavy rain warning, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue in the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Ganjam and Gajapati on October 13 and Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri on October 14.
