Bhubaneswar: In view of the prevailing heatwave conditions across the state, the Odisha government on Wednesday announced a change in the school timings for the safety of students.

Announcing this on Wednesday, Revenue Minister and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari morning classes will be held schools across the state from April 2.

Notably, the state government on Tuesday issued fresh guidelines ensuring the well-being of children at Anganwadi centres amid intense heat.

As per the notification, the Anganwadi centres, which provide crucial early childhood education and nutrition, will operate from 7 am to 9 am instead of 9 am to 2 pm to mitigate heat exposure in the state.

The timings have been revised for Anganwadi centres operating from their own buildings and the ones functioning from school classrooms.

For Anganwadi centres functioning in school classrooms, the timings are revised to 7 am to 9 am from the normal timings of 7 am to 12 noon.

The adjustments aim to protect students and workers from the extreme weather conditions, which have been intensifying across the state.

Further updates on the situation are expected as the government continues to monitor the heatwave.
