Mpox Detected In Pakistan, 2 Days After WHO Declares It As Global Health Emergency

New Delhi: Sweden on Thursday reported the first case of dangerous variant of mpox outside Africa.

On Friday, the deadly virus was reported to have reached our neighbouring Pakistan.

The Health department in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province said two cases of Mpox — previously known as monkeypox virus – have been detected. But it’s not yet clear which variants the patients have been infected with.

Mpox cases was detected in patients who arrived from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), reported Reuters.

According to the director general of health services, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two patients have been confirmed to be infected with the virus, and the third patient’s samples have been sent to Islamabad’s National Health Institute for confirmation.

All three patients have been quarantined.

Just two days ago, World Health Organisation (WHO) declared mpox as a global health emergency amid rising cases of the disease in Africa.
