Bhubaneswar: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of Mumbai has arrested the wanted ganja smuggler Nilu Pradhan from his village in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
According to sources, Nilu, who belongs to Beguniapada village under the same police station in the district, was involved in several cases of smuggling ganja to Mumbai and Gujarat. Though Mumbai Police and NCB were aware of his illegal activities, they were unable to nabe him. The NCB had put him in its most wanted list.
Following reliable information that Nilu was present in his village, an NCB team came from Mumbai and went to Ganjam along with their counterparts from Bhubaneswar.
Both NCB teams with the help of local police conducted a raid on Beguniapada village and apprehended Nilu late Saturday night. They arrested Nilu and later, Mumbai NCB team took him on transit remand for further investigation, the sources said.
Confirming the arrest of the most wanted ganja smuggler, Ranjit Kumar Prusty, Additional SP of Ganjam, told the media that Nilu was arrested on the basis of warrant issued by the NCB. The local police could not arrest him as they did not have warrant against him, he added.
