Mumbai: Mumbai Police have launched an investigation against reputed film and television producer Ekta Kapoor over allegations of disrespecting Indian soldiers in one of her web series.
YouTuber Vikas Pathak, also known as ‘Hindustani Bhau,’ filed a criminal complaint in which Ekta, her OTT platform Alt Balaji, and her parents Shobha and Jeetendra have been name as accused.
The Bandra magistrate’s court on Saturday ordered the city police to investigate the criminal complaint.
According to Pathak’s complaint, filed through advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, a web series on Alt Balaji featured a military officer involved in an ‘illicit sexual act’ in one of its episodes.
“The accused have stooped to a cheap low and shamelessly targeted the dignity and pride of our country by depicting the Indian Army military uniform in the illicit sexual act with the national emblem on it,” the complainant stated.
The Bandra court has directed police to submit a report by May 9 under section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which allows a magistrate to conduct an inquiry into a complaint or instruct police to do so.
This is not the first time that Jeetendra’s daughter has courted trouble.
Last October, she was booked under the Protection Of Children From Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly showing inappropriate scenes involving minor girls in an episode of a web series titled ‘Gandi Baat’.
In 2022, Ekta was pulled up by the Supreme Court for showing “objectionable content” in her web series ‘XXX’.
