Mumbai: A 2.5-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted and later killed by her mother’s partner in Mumbai. Reports quoting police sources claimed while the minor was subjected to such torture, the mother watched the horrific act. The Mumbai Police has arrested the woman and her partner, Farhan Shaikh, reported India Today. They have been arrested under charges of murder and child sexual abuse.
The incident took place in the Malvani area. Police were informed about the assault on the girl by a local hospital. The child was brought in and declared dead at the hospital. Doctors reportedly told the police that the girl was sexually assaulted and died due to shock caused by asphyxia.
Police alleged that the woman not only failed to intervene during the crime but also misled medical staff. When the mother brought the child to the hospital, she had allegedly claimed the girl had suffered seizures.
Police have registered a case under various sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, along with Pocso Act sections 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault), 10 (aggravated sexual assault) and 21 (failure to report).
Both the accused are currently in police custody. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
