Sundaragada: An undertrial prisoner accused of murder escaped from the Sundaragada District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where he was admitted for treatment.
The accused, identified as Tekchand Behera of Rupabahal village in the district, reportedly managed to escape on Tuesday night after taking permission for going to urinate.
Behera had been lodged in jail in Sundaragada since April last year in connection with a murder case. He was brought to the hospital for treatment when he allegedly took advantage of the situation and fled on the pretext of using the toilet.
Soon after the incident came to light, police launched a search operation to trace the absconding undertrial. Raids were conducted at several places under the Town police station limits as part of efforts to nab him.
