Balasore: Tension ran high at Remuna in Odisha’s Balasore district after a group of people barged into the police station and attacked a couple with sharp weapons on Tuesday night.
The assailants also ransacked the police station before fleeing.
Police admitted the injured couple, Raghunath Sahu and his wife Pramita Das, to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Remuna from where they were shifted to the district headquarters hospital after their condition became critical.
Talking to mediapersons, IIC of Remuna Police Station Sriballav Sahu said there was a political rivalry between two groups of people of Mandarapur and Niabag villages.
Giving details of the incident, he said that one Badal Das and his parents Raghunath Sahu and mother Pramita accompanied by a group of people arrived at the police station around 11 pm on Tuesday to lodge a complaint against the rival group for ransacking his house.
“Around 150 people of the rival group arrived at the police station with sharp weapons. Apprehending trouble, police closed the main gate of the police station. However, 20-30 people barged into the police station and attacked the complainants with sharp weapons. They also ransacked the office door, glass window and some bikes inside the police station,” the IIC added.
Stating that no complaint has been registered from either side, he said that the police are on the hunt for the miscreants on the basis of the CCTV footage.
Meanwhile, two platoons of forces have been deployed in the police station to ward off any untoward incident.
Till reports last came in, the affected group was staging a demonstration near the police station demanding the arrest of the miscreants.
