Sambalpur: Close on the heels of the sensational armed dacoity in Muthoot Finance, a gold financing company which took place on the outskirts of Sambalpur city on December 28 last year, the Sambalpur police and the Special Task force (STF) personnel of Bihar apprehended six dacoits from Patna this morning.
Informing the media, Sambalpur SP Sanjiv Arora said the Sambalpur police, in course of investigation, had come to know about the presence of some members of the dacoit gang in Patna and informed the Bihar police.
Later, acting on the information, the Bihar STF and the Sambalpur police raided the hideout of the dacoits. During the raid, the dacoits opened fire at the police who retaliated. After a brief crossfire, police later arrested six dacoits and seized gold ornaments worth Rs 15 crore.
“One of the six dacoits arrested by the police has been identified as Subodh Singh of Nalanda”, the SP said, adding that the gang is involved in major dacoity in other states.
He further said the arrested dacoits would be brought to Sambalpur for further investigation.
The incident took place in the afternoon hours on December 28 last year when six dacoits entered the office of Muthoot Finance on the busy Budharaja-Fatak main road under Ainthapali police station limits disguised as customers. Later they terrorised the staff at gun point and assaulted the accountant and forcibly snatched the keys of the vault from him. After cleaning up the cash and gold ornaments from the vault they fled the area.
