Bhubaneswar: The eight-day-long inaugural Hero Gold Cup came to an end on Friday with Myanmar defeating Nepal in the final by three goals.
A brace from Yee Yee Oo and brilliant effort from Win Theingi Tun were enough to edge out the spirited Nepal side, which scored through Manjali Kumari in the 45th minute. On the final whistle, the scorecard read 3-1.
While Myanmar came into the final unbeaten, Nepal were the true surprise package of the tournament, defeating higher-ranked India and Iran.
While India started with a win against Iran, the team failed to keep the momentum in the next two matches, losing to both Nepal and Myanmar.
The competition served as a practice tournament for all four sides- India, IR Iran, Myanmar and Nepal – who will soon embark on their respective journeys to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
