Bhubaneswar: The residents of several coastal districts in Odisha were amazed to witness a ray of bright light in the evening sky on Thursday.
Speculations of an alien ship sparked among the locals of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, and Puri after the bright light streaked across the sky. People also tried to capture it in their mobile phones. The light was also witnessed in several parts of West Bengal including Kolkata, Bankura, East, and West Midnapore, North and South 24 Parganas, Howrah, and Hooghly.
Its appearance coincided with the night trial of the nuclear-capable Agni-5 ballistic missile on December 15. The launch was carried out from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast.
However, whether the mysterious light seen in the sky of the eastern part of the country was from the missile test is not known.
It is pertinent to mention here that a loud, mysterious sound, had created panic in Jajpur, Bhadrak, and parts of Keonjhar of Odisha on November 25 triggering speculation about a possible explosion or supersonic boom. It had flummoxed the people and they were seen running out fearing it to be an earthquake.
While IMD confirmed that it was not an earthquake, a senior official of revenue and disaster management department said that some people suspected that the sound might have come from mine areas where heavy explosives are being used for blasts. Some locals had also suspected some missile tests at APJ Abdul Kalam Island. The reason for the loud sound is yet to be ascertained.
