Berhampur: In a mysterious incident in Odisha’s Rayagada district, a 62-year-old man and his 80-year-old father-in-law died on Friday after reportedly falling from a moving train while returning home from medical treatment in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

The deceased have been identified as Sudam Nayak, a resident of Kikia village under Kesinga police station in Kalahandi district, and his father-in-law Lingaraj Saha, from Luthurbandh village under Titilagarh police limits in Balangir district. Saha was a cancer patient, and Nayak had accompanied him to a hospital in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

The two were travelling in the general compartment of the Korba-Visakhapatnam Express when the incident occurred. Nayak’s body was recovered from the railway tracks near Rayagada railway station, while Saha’s body was found near Dahikhal station in Muniguda block, approximately 70 km apart. The significant distance between the recovery sites has sparked suspicion and raised questions about the exact circumstances leading to their death.

Some reports indicate Saha fell near platform number 5 at Rayagada station.

Family members alleged that the incident was not accidental but a planned murder, pointing to the unusual distance from where the bodies were recovered and the fact that the duo had no known enmity or disputes with anyone.

Meanwhile, Government Railway Police (GRP) recovered the bodies and sent them for postmortem, after which they were handed over to family members. An investigation is underway to determine whether the deaths were accidental falls from the moving train or involved foul play.
