Bhubaneswar: After joining the BJD, senior leader Naba Das on Monday tendered his resignation as the Congress MLA.
Das met the Odisha Assembly Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat at his Assembly chamber in the morning and handed over the letter of his resignation as the Congress MLA.
The Speaker later accepted his resignation.
“As I have joined the BJD, I have no moral rights to continue as a Congress MLA,” Das told mediapersons after submitting his resignation.
After resigning as the working president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) and from the primary membership of the Congress on January 16, Das had formally joined the BJD in presence of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during a meeting at Jharsuguda on January 24.
Later, he had written a letter to the Speaker expressing his intent to resign as the Congress MLA.
In his resignation letter submitted to AICC president Rahul Gandhi, Das had attributed his decision to the will of the people of his constituency. “The people and voters of my area want that I should contest the next 2019 election from BJD as they want our area should develop and I should join hands with Naveen Patnaik,” he had pointed out.
