Nagarjuna Files Defamation Case Against Telangana Minister Over Naga-Samantha Divorce Comments

Hyderabad: Telugu actor Nagarjuna Akkineni has filed a defamation case against Telangana minister and Congress leader Konda Surekha at Nampally court here on Thursday over her remarks regarding the divorce between his son Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

Nagarjuna claimed in the petition that the minister’s remarks had tarnished the reputation of his family as she falsely attributed the divorce of actors Naga and Samantha to political interference by BRS’ KT Rama Rao.

There was widespread condemnation of Surekha’s remarks, which were made during an interaction with the media at a Gandhi Jayanti programme on October 2.

Though Surekha apologised and withdrew her comments on Naga Chaitanya and Samantha’s divorce – that happened in 2021 – Nagarjuna was in no mood to forgive her.

Surekha’s defamatory statement, made in Telugu, was quoted in the petition and translated into English for the court’s review.

Nagarjuna, who had “strongly condemned” the minister’s remarks in a post on X a day earlier, emphasised in his petition that such malicious allegations threatened to tarnish the family’s legacy and sought legal action to protect their honour and reputation.

The case will be heard in the Nampally court under Section 356 of the BNS.

Naga and Samantha parted ways in 2021 mutually three years ago, after being married for four years.
