Nagpur: A 38-year-old woman died on Thursday after she was allegedly assaulted by her husband during an argument over her decision to attend a dance class in their housing society instead of preparing food at home, police said.
The deceased was identified as Yamini Krishna Lal Yadav, while her husband, 41-year-old Krishna Lal Yadav, has been arrested in connection with the case. Police have registered a murder case against him. The couple has two young children.
According to the police, Krishna Lal returned home from work and asked Yamini to prepare food for him and the children. Yamini, however, was getting ready to attend a dance class being held in their housing society and declined to cook, according to a NDTV report.
The disagreement allegedly escalated into a violent confrontation. Police said Krishna Lal, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, assaulted Yamini on her neck and abdomen in front of their two children.
Following the alleged assault, Yamini complained of severe pain in her neck and abdomen and asked her husband to bring painkillers. Krishna Lal reportedly went to a medical store, but found it closed and returned without the medicine.
Yamini’s condition subsequently worsened, with her abdomen swelling as a result of what police later determined were serious internal injuries. She was taken to a hospital for treatment, where she died.
Police initially registered a case of accidental death and sent Yamini’s body for a post-mortem examination. However, the post-mortem findings reportedly revealed serious injuries, including a fractured neck bone and extensive damage to the intestines.
The findings prompted police to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death further. Yamini’s brother said the family had initially believed that she had died under tragic circumstances, but the post-mortem report changed their understanding of what had happened.
