Narada Scam: Late Night Drama As HC Stays Bail Granted To TMC Ministers, MLA
Kolkata: In a dramatic turn of events, the Calcutta High Court stayed the order of a lower court which had granted interim bail to Trinamool Congress (TMC) ministers Firhad Hakim (who is also Mayor of Kolkata), Subrata Mukherjee, MLA Madan Mitra and former Mayor Sovan Chatterjee in the Narada bribery case.
The high court overturned the Bankshall Court ruling – given by Special CBI judge Anupam Mukherjee in the evening — at a special sitting held late on Monday night.
The CBI had moved the high court against the special court order.
All four leaders, who were picked up from their respective residences on Monday morning by CBI sleuths, will be taken to Presidency Jail.
Thousands of TMC supporters, who had protested the arrests throughout the day in front of CBI office and in other districts, were taken aback by the latest development.
Many of them who had gone home hearing the news of bail, returned to the site late at night and told local TV channels that they won’t let authorities take the leaders to jail.
