National Handloom Summit 2024 Takes Off In Odisha’s Bargarh

Bargarh: In order to promote Odisha’s handloom at national level, Bargarh Handloom Summit 2024 took off on Thursday.

The two-day summit is jointly organised by Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Department, Western Odisha Development Council (WODC) and district administration in western Odisha town of Bargarh, a major hub of handloom products. The theme of this year’s summit is “A Weave of Culture and Legacy”.

Speaking on the occasion, Asit Tripathy, chairman of WODC said the Handloom Summit will help bring the weavers, sellers, buyers and trainers to a common platform.

The main objective of the summit is to introduce handloom such as Bomkai, Pashapali, Habaspuri, Sonpuri, Sambalpuri Bandha, Ikat at the national level and provide a platform to weavers to popularise new innovative designs.

The summit has been organised with joint efforts of the district administrations of Bargarh, Boudh, Sonepur and Balangir. Bollywood icon Diya Mirza will attend a fashion show to be organised in the summit. Famous fashion designers will display their creations at the show.

Handloom, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Rita Sahu, Arvind Kumar Padhi, principal secretary of the department, Bargarh MLA Debesh Acharya, Atabira MLA Snehangani Chhuriya, Northern Revenue Commissioner Suresh Chandra Dalei, Bargarh collector Monisha Banerjee, WODC CEO Ajit Kumar Mishra and other officials were present at the inaugural ceremony.

WODC Chairman also attended the annual function of Parvati Giri Women’s College in Bargarh. WODC, which had granted Rs 1.7 crore for infrastructure development of the college, has sanctioned an additional grant of Rs 1 crore, he said.
