New Delhi: Just over a week after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) has been reconstituted.
Former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief Alok Joshi has been named chairman of the revamped seven-member board.
Among other distinguished former officers from the armed forces and civil services are former Western Air Commander Air Marshal PM Sinha, former Southern Army Commander Lt General AK Singh, Rear Admiral Monty Khanna, retired IPS officers Rajiv Ranjan Verma and Manmohan Singh, and former IFS officer B Venkatesh Varma.
The Central government’s decision comes in the aftermath of the April 22 massacre at Baisaran valley, 5 km from Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent people.
India has already taken several diplomatic measures against Pakistan, believed to be backing the terrorists who have repeatedly tried to disturb peace in Kashmir and other parts of the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union government is also learnt to be mulling some kind of direct retaliation against Pakistan. Modi held several important meetings on Wednesday, including a review meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).
On Tuesday, the PM engaged in high-level discussions with Defence minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan, and the heads of all armed forces.
Modi empowered the forces to determine the mode of response, choose targets, and set the timing for operations.
