Bhubaneswar: National President of BJP Mahila Morcha, Vijaya Rahatkar on Sunday came down heavily on the Odisha government for its failure in protecting the lives of women and children.
“Incidents of rape are on the rise in Odisha. Though women in the state are being raped every day, the Chief Minister has remained tight-lipped and is taking no step to curb this heinous crime. Even children in the state are not safe,” she told mediapersons here after arriving from Delhi.
She said the issues would be discussed at the three-day national executive committee meeting of the party’s Mahila Morcha beginning at Puri on Sunday.
Talking about the strengthening of the BJP Mahila Morcha in Odisha ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, Rahatkar said that at least five BJP Mahila Morcha workers will be engaged in each booth.
Stating that a convention of the Mahila Shakti Kendra will be held at the national convention of party’s Mahila Morcha at Puri on Monday, she said about 8000 Mahila Shakti Kendras are now functioning in Odisha.
Rahatkar also informed that keeping his ‘Mission 120+’ firmly in sight, national BJP president Amit Shah will attend the national convention of party’s Mahila Morcha at Puri on Monday.
As informed by the State BJP Mahila Morcha president Pravati Parida, all Union women ministers, MPs, State Mahila Morcha presidents and Secretaries will attend the executive committee meeting.
“Atrocities and violence against women will be the major agenda of the national convention,” she added.
In response to the allegations, Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD) president Pramila Mallick said the chief minister had taken several steps to deal with crime against women in the state.
