Naveen Lays Foundation Stone For Model Jail With Focus On Reforms In Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a model jail at Jamujhari in Odisha capital.
“The war against crime is best fought by promoting reforms and rehabilitation. Prisons provide the inmates the opportunity to reform, learn and reintegrate into society as productive and law-abiding citizens. The model jail has been designed to provide a humane and safe environment for inmates,” said Naveen while laying the foundation stone on virtual mode.
“I hope this model jail will provide the inmates sufficient opportunities to reform into productive members of society upon release,” he added.
The model jail will have state-of-the-art security features, IP-based surveillance, e-court rooms, and multiple VC facilities which would make it completely automated. The layout plan for the model jail has been developed after research on prison reforms and study of many prisons.
The inmates will also have better amenities and easy access to essential healthcare and educational resources. Separate wards for each category of inmates, net-zero carbon emission and zero discharge would be other features of the model jail.
Minister of State for Home Tusharkanti Behera, Jatni MLA Suresh Kumar Routray, DG Prisons AM Prasad and Additional DG Amitabh Thakur were present at Jamujhari while ACS, Home DK Singh and CMD of Odisha State Police Housing Corporation Santosh Bala attended the ceremony from Lok Seva Bhawan.
