Bhubaneswar: A day after undergoing a surgery for cervical arthritis in Mumbai, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is doing very well on Monday.
This information was shared by Naveen’s elder brother Prem Patnaik, who shared updates about the former CM’s health condition in a video message.
Stating that Naveen’s health is fine after the surgery, he also thanked people of Odisha, who prayed for 78-year-old leader’s speedy recovery. “He (Naveen) underwent a procedure yesterday and he is doing very well,” said Patnaik.
Naveen is walking a little bit, a few steps to the bathroom, he said, expressing his gratitude to people for their concern for the ex-CM. “I am sure, with all your good wishes, he (Naveen) will have a very speedy recovery,” he added.
Notably, Naveen Patnaik underwent a successful spine surgery at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on Sunday. “He is now fully conscious, has started talking, and is doing well. He will remain under observation for 2 days, following which he will be shifted to a private room,” cardiac surgeon and his personal physician Dr Ramakant Panda had told the media after the surgery.
The surgery was conducted by Dr S Rajasekaran, a globally recognised orthopaedic surgeon and chairman of Ganga Medical Center and Hospitals in Coimbatore, along with doctors of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
Panda had further stated that Naveen, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Odisha Assembly, will be discharged from hospital in the next 5-6 days.
The former CM had left for Mumbai on Friday to undergo the medical procedure for treatment of cervical arthritis. He was experiencing pain due to spondylitis for the last few days and was under treatment.
