Mumbai: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a boom in the OTT market. Prolonged lockdowns have resulted in more and more content being created and a number of movies being released on OTT platform.
While many film personalities have adapted to this forced change, some are not comfortable with it. Nawazuddin Siddiqui belongs to the second category.
The versatile actor has said he will quit working in productions made for the streaming market, calling online platforms a “dumping ground for redundant shows.”
“The platform has become a dumping ground for redundant shows. We either have shows that don’t deserve to be seen in the first place. Or sequels to shows that have nothing more to say,” Nawazuddin told Bollywood Hungama.
“It’s become dhanda (racket) for big production houses and actors. Major film producers in Bollywood have cut lucrative deals with all the big players in the OTT field. Producers get whopping amounts to create unlimited content,” he said.

Nawaz had featured in Netflix’s first Indian original series Sacred Games, in which he played the role of a hardened and dreaded gangster called Ganesh Gaitonde. His performance was highly appreciated. But the excitement and challenge he had experienced while working in Sacred Games has evaporated, Nawaz remarked.
“When I can’t bear to watch them how can I bear to be in them?” Nawaz said.
This is not the first time that Nawazuddin has expressed his reservations about OTT platforms.
