Bhubaneswar: In a major development in the Odisha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment exam scam, Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs) have been issued against eight alleged middlemen over their alleged involvement in irregularities.
The action comes after the accused failed to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the high-profile case, despite repeated notices. Some of the brokers are stated to be based in Bihar and they are absconding.
The middlemen are suspected to have facilitated unfair practices during the recruitment process.
As per information, the accused include Anwesh Nayak, Ashish Kumar, Balaram Pradhan, Dharmendra Pradhan, Gobinda Tripathi, Gopal Krishna Das, Gopi Raman and Sanjay Kumar, with three of them reportedly linked to Bihar.
Among them, Ashish Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, and Gopi Raman from Bihar allegedly conducted operations in Odisha while maintaining contacts with administrative officers
It is suspected that the network of middlemen manipulated recruitment processes by leveraging their connections. The authorities have now issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the suspects, urging swift action to bring them to justice.
In a petition filed in a court in Bhubaneswar, the CBI has stated that the agency requires more time for conducting a thorough investigation and apprehending the absconding accused persons.
The crackdown signals intensified investigation into the recruitment scam and efforts to bring the accused to justice. Authorities had earlier summoned the suspects multiple times, but their continued absence led to strict legal action.
Last month, the Orissa High Court had extended the interim bail of Muna Mohanty, a key accused in the alleged scam in Odisha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment exam, granting him continued relief on medical grounds. The relief was granted during a hearing where the High Court examined health-related documents submitted by the CBI.
The case pertains to alleged irregularities and corruption in the recruitment of police Sub-Inspectors, which has drawn significant public and legal attention across the State. The CBI has been actively investigating the matter, examining various angles, including possible manipulation in the selection process.
In a major breakthrough in the case, the CBI conducted its first raid at Techno School campus in Bhubaneswar on April 13.
Investigations also indicate that specific seating arrangements had allegedly been made for some candidates who struck deals to secure police jobs. It is alleged that some of the aspirants paid up to Rs 15 lakh to ensure selection.
