NCRB Report: Odisha Stands 4th In Missing Women Cases In Country

Bhubaneswar: In a shocking news for people of Odisha, the state has 4th highest cases of missing women in the country.

According to a latest report of National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), total 35,981 cases of missing women have been registered in Odisha till 2021. While Madhya Pradesh tops the list of missing women cases, Maharashtra is ranked second and West Bengal third.

Of the missing cases in Odisha, 16,608 victims have been rescued or identified, while 19,175 women are yet to be traced, as per the NCRB report.

In the rate of rescue of missing women also, the state performs far less then the national average. Compared to rescue of 56.2% missing women at the national level, Odisha has reported 46.7% in the report.

Besides, Odisha has fared poorly in rescue of victims of human trafficking and minor girls racket. Against the national figure of 65.5% success in rescue of minor girls, the state has managed to reach 61.6%. In human trafficking, chargesheets have been filed in 70.4% of total cases against the national average of 84.7%, the Bureau stated in its report.
