NCRB Report: Registered Corruption Cases Come Down In Odisha In 2020

Bhubaneswar: The corruption cases continued to come down in Odisha where 245 such cases were registered in 2020.

According to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, total 4129 corruption cases were registered in the country in 2018 while their numbers were 4244 in 2019 and 3100 in 2020.

In Odisha, 429 corruption cases were registered in 2018; 353 in 2019 and 245 in 2020. On the flip side, 98.7% of the cases have not been heard in the court.

Of the total cases filed in the state in 2020, 103 are trap cases, 93 disproportionate assets cases and 49 criminal cases, according to the NCRB report.

While the police had a backlog of 1493 corruption cases, they have filed chargesheet in 153 cases and have not completed investigation in 1577 cases.

Out of total 3,509 corruption cases filed in the court, 153 came up for hearing while 3.356 are pending cases till 2020. The courts have sentenced the accused in 16 cases out of 32 cases heard during the year at the rate of 50% conviction rate.

While 98.7% corruption cases are pending in the courts for hearing in Odisha, its figure is 86.7% in the country.
