New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi on Saturday sharpened his attack on the Narendra Modi government over the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) NEET-UG paper leak, demanding the immediate sacking of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
In a video message shared on X, the Leader of Opposition said that 22 lakh NEET students had been “cheated but Modi ji isn’t saying a word.”
Rahul asked the Prime Minister to either remove Pradhan immediately or take responsibility himself.
“Modi ji, sack Dharmendra Pradhan ji now,” Rahul said.
The crucial NEET-UG exam, for admission to medical colleges, was held on May 3 but cancelled nine days later after irregularities came to light in the examination process. It triggering protests from several quarters across the country.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a re-test on June 21.
However, the controversy has anything but died.
Rahul said in the video 22 lakh students had worked day and night for two years to prepare for the NEET examination, but their hard work had gone to waste.
“The whole country knows that two days before the exam, NEET’s paper was distributed on WhatsApp. Dharmendra Pradhan ji, India’s Education Minister, says I have nothing to do with this. A committee had made a recommendation, but they threw it in the dustbin. They said opposition people are sitting in the committee, it doesn’t mean anything, there is no need,” Rahul mentioned.
He alleged a nexus involving the RSS, BJP and university officials had damaged the country’s education system.
“Truth be told, you have damaged Hindustan’s core. This is a nexus — RSS, BJP, and their colleagues at our universities: Vice Chancellors and Professors. There exists this nexus of making money between them, and they have destroyed Hindustan’s education system,” Rahul said.
The Congress MP claimed that appointment of Vice-Chancellors were based on ideological affiliation rather than merit.
“The whole country knows that if you want to become Vice Chancellor, you don’t need subject knowledge or experience. If you are from RSS, then you can become a Vice Chancellor. But if your ideology is not of the RSS, you cannot become Vice-Chancellor,” Rahul alleged.
