New Delhi: A man, wanted for murder in India and imprisoned in Nepal for a similar crime, was nabbed along the border between the two countries after a jailbreak during the recent upheaval in the Himalayan nation.
The Delhi Police were on the lookout for Arjun Kumar (30) alias Bhola since 2017. On November 17 that year, a man lodged a complaint at the New Ashok Nagar police station about his daughter’s abduction. He accused Bhola of the crime. The girl’s body was later found at Bhola’s rented accommodation.
“The accused could not be traced though. He was on the run and a reward of Rs 1 lakh was announced for any information leading to his arrest. Subsequently we came to know that he had been arrested in Nepal for another murder and was serving a sentence there,” Harsh Indora, DCP (Crime), Delhi Police.
According to him, Bhola and the woman who was murdered in Delhi in 2017 lived in the same building and were in a relationship. Bhola had allegedly pressured her to elope, but she refused. In a fit of rage, he slit her throat on November 16 and fled to Nepal.
In Nepal, Bhola befriended one Naushad, who was in a relationship with a married woman. This woman’s family opposed the relationship. Naushad then conspired with his cousin and Bhola to kill the woman’s mother. They slit her throat in the same manner that Bhola had killed the woman in Delhi.
All three were arrested and sentenced to 25 years by a court in Nepal.
After violence erupted in Nepal over the Gen-Z protests, Indian authorities came to know that Bhola was among those who had escaped from prison amidst the turmoil. They were also informed that he was attempting to enter India through the border with Bihar.
A Delhi Police team rushed to Raxaul in Bihar and arrested Bhola as he was attempting to cross over into India.
