Bhubaneswar: A new book on indirect tax reforms in Odisha was launched in Bhubaneswar highlighting the state’s journey through different taxation regimes.
The book, titled “Reforms in Indirect Taxes in Odisha: From Sales Tax to VAT & GST” and written by Pradeep Kumar Biswal and Satyapriya Rath, was unveiled at a ceremony in the conference hall of Geetagobinda Sadan on Sunday evening.
Former Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadai, who attended the event as the chief guest, highlighted the trajectory of Odisha’s economic progress over the past two decades and explained how reforms in the sales tax system had contributed significantly to the growth of state revenue. He also expressed the view that the book would be highly useful for all.
In his keynote address, former Finance Secretary Rabinarayan Senapati, praised the book extensively and congratulated both authors. Former State Information Commissioner Dillip Kumar Bisoyi presented a detailed review of the book and elaborated on its distinctive features. Commercial Tax Officer Lopamudra Singh explained how the book would be extremely useful for officers.
At the beginning of the programme, both authors spoke about the book and shared their perspectives. The event was conducted by the publisher, Paresh Kumar Patnaik.
Bisoyi suggested a bigger edition of the book with interesting anecdotes relatable to the scholars, tax practitioners, students, tax officials, traders and the general people of the State.
