Brahmapur: New Superintendent of Police (SP) of Brahmapur Abhinav Sonkar has assumed charge and outlined a people-centric policing agenda with a strong focus on crime control, traffic management and public safety.
Addressing his first press conference after taking charge on Thursday afternoon, Sonkar said maintaining law and order, curbing crime and streamlining traffic would be among his foremost priorities.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety and security of women, children and weaker sections of society.
After formally taking charge from the outgoing SP Dr Sarabana Vivek M, the new SP Sonkar saluted Maa Budhi Thakurani, revered as the presiding deity of Brahmapur, and sought her blessings to serve the people effectively and uphold justice.
Sonkar said cases relating to women, children and vulnerable sections would be reviewed in detail and efforts would be made to trace victims and ensure speedy action. He further announced that raids against duplicate manufacturing units, illegal activities and gambling dens would be intensified.
With the festive season approaching, the SP said police would launch a special drive against criminals and anti-social elements. Strict legal action would be taken against offenders to ensure peaceful celebrations and maintain public order, he added.
The new SP also expressed his commitment to strengthening public confidence in the police through efficient, transparent and responsive policing.
