New Cases Over 60k Push India’s COVID-19 Tally Past 23 Lakh, Fatality Rate Drops Below 2%

New Delhi: With 60,963 new cases registered overnight, India’s COVID-19 tally breached 23 lakh-mark to stand at 23,29,639 on Wednesday.

Also, 834 people succumbed to the infection across the country in the last 24 hours. The fatality rate dipped below 2 per cent and stands at 1.98 per cent taking the fatality count to 46,091. The country currently ranks fifth in the total number of deaths due to COVID-19.

According to the Union Health Ministry, 70.38 per cent (16,39,600) people have recovered while 27.64 per cent (6,43,948) are still under treatment.

The number of sample testing labs has increased to 1421. According to ICMR, the total number of samples tested are 2,60,15,297 including 7,33,449 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a panel of experts will meet on Wednesday to discuss the procurement and administration of COVID-19 vaccines. The meeting will be chaired by Dr V K Paul, a member of the Niti Aayog.
