New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express Catches Fire Near Rourkela

Rourkela: A fire broke out in B-7 coach of New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express here on Monday.

According to available information, the fire was spotted near Tilkanagar, a few kilometres from Rourkela railway station. However, there was no loss of life.

Till reports last came in, the railway staff had evacuated the passengers from the coach. The train will leave the station once the coach is detached, the sources said.

Talking to mediapersons, after the train arrived in Rourkela, a passenger said the train was about 20 km from Rourkela when they noticed a spark in the electrical circuit inside the coach and informed the railway staff.

“They asked us not to panic saying that there was a minor fault in the circuit. After the train moved about another 10 km, there was a huge spark in the circuit. At this, one of the passengers pulled the emergency chain. As soon as the train stopped, the panicked passengers got down from the coach. The railway staff then examined the circuit and disconnected power supply to the coach. The train later left for Rourkela with all the passengers. We have been told that the train will leave for Bhubaneswar after the affected coach is detached,” he added.

“There was no fire but only smoke in one of the coaches. Railway officials are at the spot, carrying out preliminary investigation. All passengers are safe,” Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) of South Eastern Railway Sanjay Ghosh told Odisha Bytes over phone.
