Bhubaneswar: Elaborate security and traffic arrangements have been made by the Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar ahead of Zero Night celebrations.
Ahead of the New Year, steps have been taken for the deployment of at least 15 platoons of police force across key locations of the capital city to prevent untoward incidents and ensure public safety during the celebrations.
Commissioner of Police S Dev Dutta Singh said heightened security measures are being made with special focus on crowd control, traffic regulation, prevention of drunken driving, and safety of women.
All police stations have been directed to closely monitor their respective jurisdictions and respond swiftly to any law-and-order or emergency situation.
While 15 platoons of police force have been deployed, proper arrangements are being made for traffic management. Designated teams are being positioned at specific sites, he said, adding that late-night security has been beefed up, particularly to ensure the safety of women.
Special teams will be deployed at vulnerable and high-footfall locations, including major roads, party zones, hotels, and entertainment hubs. Police have already intensified checks against drunken driving, warning that strict action will be taken against violators.
Consumption of liquor is permissible up to a certain limit and only at certain places, which has already been informed to the public. However, drunken driving is illegal, and police have already begun enforcing checks in this regard, the Police Commissioner said.
Additionally, the Fire Service department has completed inspections at identified locations, including hotels, bars, restaurants, and event venues, as part of preventive measures against fire mishaps. The Commissionerate Police said advisories on fire safety have already been issued.
Instruction has been issued to bar and restaurant owners to adopt comprehensive security measures within their premises and remain vigilant throughout the celebrations. Establishments must ensure compliance with permitted timings and safety norms and immediately report any adverse situation, police said.
