Puri: In a shocking incident, a newborn girl child was found abandoned in the toilet of the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Puri on Thursday.
According to SNCU in-charge Dr. Suryanarayana Mishra said the child was found in the pipeline of the outdoor casualty around 9 am on Thursday.
After complains of of a clogged drainage pipe in the outdoor casualty, a sweeper was engaged in cleaning work. The sweeper found the child with the placenta attached which seems that she was born today. The child was rescued by the hospital staff and doctors, said Dr Mishra.
Dr Mishra said the baby was around 6 months 15 days old in the foetus and weighs 945 gm. She was found in bathroom toilet pipe along with placenta after which she was rescued, cleaned and taken to Sick Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU) of the hospital where she is on oxygen support in a warmer. The child’s condition is critical, the SNCU in-charge added.
Since the incident occurred in the outdoor, investigation is on to find out the reasons behind the premature delivery, Dr Mishra said and added CCTV footages will be examined to ascertain the child’s mother’s identity.
Childline Counsellor Yashoda Swain said the child is under treatment but in a critical condition. We reached the hospital after receiving the complaint and will keep a track of her development.”
