Bhubaneswar: Jay Dholakia, who recently registered a landslide victory in the Nuapada by-election on BJP ticket, was sown-in as the Member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
Speaker Surama Padhy administered the oath of office and secrecy to the BJP legislator in the presence of his family members and senior leaders from the party.
Jay won the high-stakes Nuapada Assembly bypoll, defeating Congress nominee Ghasiram Majhi by a massive margin of 83,478 votes. He secured 1,23,869 votes, while Majhi managed 40,121. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) finished a distant third as its candidate, former minister Snehangini Chhuria, polled 38,408 votes.
The victory in the bypoll not only increased one seat for the ruling BJP in the state Assembly but was widely interpreted as an endorsement of the popularity of its 17-month-old government led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
