Bhubaneswar: A plantation drive will be conducted across all 153 schools in Joda block, as part of the 1000 Schools Project, implemented by Delhi-based NGO, ASPIRE.
It is being run in six blocks (Joda, Harichandanpur, Danagadi, Sukinda, Koida and Kutra) under three districts (Keonjhar, Jajpur and Sundergarh) in Odisha.
The project started two years ago and is being promoted by Tata Steel to improve the quality of education in Odisha. With this, the company hopes to realise the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and 13 (Climate Action).
Till date, approximately 5000 saplings of 35 different indigenous plants have already been planted across 91 schools. The project aims to improve the quality of education in government schools and strengthen the school governance system. Joda has a high school dropout rate due to child labour.
