Night Temp Drops To 15⁰C Or Below At 6 Places In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The night temperature plummeted to 11.4 degree Celsius in G Udayagiri in Odisha’s Kandhamal district in the last 24 hours, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre informed on Saturday.

Five other places recorded temperature at or below 15 degree Celsius – Koraput (11.7), Semiliguda in Koraput district (12), Daringbadi (13.5) in Kandhamal, Kirei in Sundargarh (14.5) and Phulbani in Kandhamal (15). The minimum temperature also dropped to 15.3 degree Celsius in Rourkela and 15.9 degree Celsius in Sundargarh.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 22.2 and 22 degree Celsius, respectively, last night.

While predicting the possibility of formation of a low pressure system over southeast adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal area towards around November 15, the weather agency in its extended range forecast had said that dry weather is likely to prevail across Odisha from November 10-16 with isolated light to moderate rain/thundershower in coastal Odisha towards end of the week. The night temperature would be slightly below normal by 2-3⁰C at some places of interior Odisha during this period, it added.

“Dry weather is likely to prevail over all the districts of Odisha during the next five days, till November 15. After that, there are chances of rain in coastal Odisha and adjoining interior areas around November 16,” Director of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre H R Biswas said.

Strong easterly/northeasterly winds from Bay of Bengal is prevailing over Southeast peninsular India.

Under its influence:, light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is likely over Lakshadweep, Kerala & Mahe and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during next 24 hours. A fresh spell of rainfall due to easterly wave likely to commence over south peninsular India from November 14. Light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall may also occur over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 7 days.
