Bhubaneswar: Cold wave conditions are likely to return to Odisha next week with sharp drop in night temperatures, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
In a bulletin, the IMD said that there will be no large change in minimum temperature (night temperature) in the state during the next four days. However, night temperature is likely to fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius in most parts of the state after four days.
Meanwhile, G Udayagiri in Kandhamal was the coldest among hill stations in the state recording 8.3 degrees Celsius on Saturday morning, while Semiliguda in Koraput district shivered at 9.6 degrees Celsius. Phulbani, also in Kandhamal, was the coldest place in the plains with 10 degrees Celsius.
As per the weather agency, the recent rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius in many areas was caused by moisture intrusion from two active systems over the Bay of Bengal, and that those gains will be lost as winter regains strength itself in the first week of December.
IMD attributed the recent increase in night temperatures to the presence of two active weather systems in the southwest Bay of Bengal and near the Sri Lanka coast.
Meanwhile, dense fog has occurred at one or two places over the district of Kandhamal and Sundergarh. Moderate fog has occurred at one or two places over Kalahandi and Koraput.
Dense fog is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Nayagarh, and Khurda till Sunday morning. The IMD has issued a yellow warning for these districts.
