Bhubaneswar: Even as night temperature has gradually been falling across Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said that the mercury is likely to drop further in next couple of days.
State capital Bhubaneswar is likely to witness gradual dip in temperature which may drop to around 17°C in a few days, while temperature in Cuttack city is expected to touch 16°C by mid-next week.
The weather agency has attributed the fall in temperature to clear skies and prevailing dry north-easterly winds, signalling the seasonal transition toward winter conditions.
The minimum (night) temperature is very likely to fall by 2°C to 3°C during the next 2 to 3 days, with no major changes expected thereafter. The forecast indicates that cooler nights will prevail across both interior and coastal Odisha through November 15.
Notably, the lowest minimum temperature in the plains was recorded at 12.5°C in Phulbani on Friday night, while the highest maximum temperature of 34°C was registered in Nayagarh.
Bhubaneswar reported a maximum temperature of 32.3°C, a minimum of 18.9°C at 8.30 am on Saturday. IMD data also show that the minimum temperature has appreciably fallen by about 2°C to 3°C in a few parts of interior Odisha, particularly in Sundargarh and Kalahandi, where shallow fog was reported in the early morning hours.
Night temperatures in north interior Odisha were appreciably below normal by around 4°C, while several other districts recorded temperatures 1–2°C below normal.
