Night Temp Touches 7.2°C In Odisha, Drops Below 15°C In Bhubaneswar & Cuttack
Bhubaneswar: With cold wave gripping various parts of Odisha, the mercury plummeted to 7.2 degree Celsius at G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district in the last 24 hours, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre informed on Tuesday.
The night temperature hovered at and below 10 degree Celsius at four other places in the state. Keonjhar and Kirei in Sundargarh recorded 9.4 degree Celsius each followed by Daringbadi and Phulbani, also in Kandhamal district, at 9.5 degree Celsius and 10 degree Celsius, respectively.
Similarly, Angul registered minimum temperature of 10.6 degree Celsius, followed by Sundargarh (11), Koraput (11.2), and Balasore and Rourkela at 11.3 degree Celsius each. The mercury also dropped below 15 degree Celsius in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, which recorded night temperature of 14.6 and 14.5 degree Celsius, respectively. The temperature in the state capital was 1.4 degrees below normal.
The cold wave is also sweeping various parts of Koraput district, impacting both hilly and plain areas. The mercury has been hovering between 10 and 12 degree Celsius at several places in the district since Friday night.
Notably, this year’s cold weather condition in Odisha was delayed from November to the first week of December, due to the influence of cyclonic rains. However, the night temperature dropped by 2-3 degrees in last couple of days amid inflow of northerly or north-westerly dry wind.
In its extended rage forecast valid till December 14, the weather agency has predicted a fall in the night temperature by 2-4 degree Celsius at many places across the state.
According to Director of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre HR Biswas, the cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in most parts of Odisha till January 2.
