Bhubaneswar: Former South Carolina Governor and Indian American Nikki Haley on Tuesday announced that she would seek Republican nomination for election to US President post in 2024.
“I’m Nikki Haley and I’m running for President,” a news agency quoted Nikki saying in a video message that her team sent by email.
Nimrata ‘Nikki’ Randhawa, who served as Ambassador to the United Nations in the President Donald Trump administration would pose a challenge to her former boss. She is likely to reveal her campaign plans in a speech at Charleston, South Carolina, on Wednesday.
The other high-profile leaders in the race for Republican ticket include Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson.
Nikki is the third Indian American to seek the Presidential nomination after Bobby Jindal in 2015-16 and Kamala Harris in 2019-20. Jindal was beaten by Trump in the Republican primaries, while Harris went on to become the first Indian American to become Vice President.
