Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik on Saturday came down heavily on the BJP-led government at the Centre for the delay in announcing the minimum support price (MSP) for major Kharif crops despite the onset of monsoon.
“While the monsoon has covered the entire Odisha as well as the country, the Centre is yet to announce MSP for 24 major crops. As a result, the average sowing of seeds in the state in June this year has been around 10 percent less than the corresponding month last year,” Niranjan said in a release.
He further said that the delay in MSP announcement will lead to loses for farmers. “If the farmers do not get proper support price, they will not be able to recover their input cost,” he said and urged the centre to announce the MSP at the earliest.
The Congress leader also urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to put pressure on Centre on this matter for the cause of the farmers of the state.
